Bamboo blinds And Other Window Treatments

Bamboo chic exemplifies the current decorating tend: using natural materials in a sophisticated way. The style has an Asian feel, and bamboo is the perfect way to achieve the look in your household interior décor.

You can get that bamboo chic look with a variety of window treatments, not the least of them being bamboo blinds.

Bamboo blinds

Bamboo blinds have been around for a long, long time. You have probably seen these blinds before they became chic, bamboo matchsticks strung together horizontally, hanging on the outside of a home to shade a southern or western facing window.

Today's bamboo blinds have a modern twist. Modern technology flattens the bamboo canes and provides great uniformity in the width and shape of each individual can that is used to make up the blind. In addition, these natural window coverings are lined with light filtering fabrics and room darkening fabrics.

Fabric Curtains

Fabric draperies are still a popular window treatment. You can extend the look of bamboo chic to your windows by choosing a bamboo fabric print. Bamboo prints come in abstract vertical arrangements of bamboo stalks or fabric printed with the delicate bamboo leaves that grow on the stalks. These are bold prints that set the tone of the entire room. If you use a bold bamboo print fabric for your window treatments instead of bamboo blinds, consider making several throw pillows or seat cushions out of the same fabric to tie the room together.

Using a bamboo print fabric in a roll-up roman shade is another way to bring a modern bamboo chic look into your home. Today's shades lift smoothly with chain clutch lifts. Some blinds can open by remote control – what could be easier?

Bamboo Plants

The ultimate in bamboo chic is bamboo plants! These plants are sold in individual stalks and are extremely affordable. Fill a shallow waterproof tray with pebbles and anchor dozens of green bamboo stalks in the pebbles. Fill the tray with water, and watch each stalk explode in a profusion of delicate, gently curling leaves. In a short time, these leaves will grow to fill in the area in front of a sunny window, providing privacy and the illusion of a window covering screen.

Bamboo Cornices

Top your window treatments with unique bamboo cornices in several different styles. One cornice consists of stained bamboo nailed together to form a cornice box. On another cornice, a bamboo rail runs along the top and bottom edge of the cornice, but the middle area is filled in with a fiber strip that matches the fiber used in the bamboo blinds below the cornice.
